The End. (Again!)

With my last post talking about how I was “almost done” with my current novel, it is expected to follow it up with the “DONE” post!

If you are interested in my post-finishing reactions and process, then I will tell you that it has been almost identical to when I last finished a novel, almost two years ago – and I wrote about it then. Yesterday, as I started to feel sad and teary about the whole thing, I recognized the feeling and re-visited that post myself.

I am moving through the stages more quickly, and currently I am re-reading the manuscript, and at first I told myself that I shouldn’t do that yet, but honestly, it’s been awhile since I’ve read a few of those earlier chapters and I need the cohesiveness of it in my head before I close it out to marinate and allow me to look at it with fresh eyes before I start in on revisions.

Right now it is hard to not have anything to write, and I mean specifically that manuscript. When I am in the final stages of such a project, I am spending every spare minute thinking, living, and breathing it. So sure, I’ve got this little blog post to share, but it’s not the same at all – and oddly difficult to write.

The good news (sort of) is that this time around, I know exactly what the next steps are. I know I need the query and synopsis (and how to do it), so while the manuscript sits, I can still breathe it through these other venues. Admittedly, I’m not really looking forward to it, as I’ve discovered my query-writing stinks. Plus, I need a title and am waiting for inspiration to strike like it did last time.

And maybe I’ll feel the inspiration to re-visit the various posts I’ve either started and saved or written in my head, but had never completed since I opted to focus all of my writing time and energy on FINISHING THE NOVEL. 😀

I don’t think it comes through here in this post (I’m still processing, you know), but I am super excited about this book. And optimistic. I can’t wait for y’all to read it one day.

Off of Eric Hutchinson’s latest LP: “Best Days”

So when this craziness is through
I’ll spend my happiness with you

  2. Congratulations, and I sympathise with post novel loss of direction. It seems weird to finish typing, look up, and realise the world is still there, doesn’t it?

  3. Really proud of you. I hope the query/synopsis will be easier this time around. For what it’s worth, I definitely think you’ll have less editing to do with this one.
